Embodied emissions of buildings - A forgotten factor in green building certificates

چکیده
• The pre-use stage (construction) emissions of buildings occur in a short time. Wooden seem to emit less compared concrete ones according LCA. Green building certificates need consider embodied more exhaustively. construction and use consume significant proportion global energy natural resources. Leadership Energy Environmental Design (LEED) is arguably the most international green certification system attempts take actions limit construct them sustainably. While there has been wide range research mainly focused on emission production during operation phase LEED-certified buildings, rare. aim this study evaluate efficiency LEED regarding initial (pre-use) using life cycle assessment (LCA). comprised several steps designed model. In first step, three optional material scenarios were defined (optimized concrete, hybrid concrete-wood, wooden buildings) addition base case located Iceland. Second, an LCA was conducted for each scenario. Finally, number points level assessed all studied scenarios. addition, comparison consideration between Building Research Establishment Assessment Method (BREEAM) as mostly used certificate discussion section. showed lowest environmental impact followed by concrete-wood building. framework, obtained 14 8 that related selection. Among these points, only 3 (out total 110 available points) directly accredited emissions. recommends increase weight sustainable materials since significance substantially growing along with current carbon neutrality goals. As are imported into Iceland, useful locations similar while overall it beneficial whole world climate change mitigation.

متن کاملIncorporating oligopoly, CO2 emissions trading and green certificates into a power generation expansion model
This paper presents a generation expansion model for the power sector which incorporates several features that make it very interesting for its application to current electricity markets: it considers the possible oligopolistic behavior of firms, and incorporates relevant policy instruments, carbon emissions trading and tradable green certificates. It combines powerful traditional tools related...

This paper investigates three models to implement Tradable Green Certificates (TGC) system with aid of game theory approach. In particular, the competition between thermal and renewable power plants is formulated in three models: namely cooperative, Nash and Stackelberg game models. The price of TGC is assumed to be determined by the legislative body (government) which is fixed. Numerical examp...
متن کاملTowards Green Building: Sustainability Approach in Building Industrialization
Building construction challenge, in recent years, is the reduction of social, economical and environmentalimpacts along with economical nature and increasing life quality, as here sustainable construction is important. Pre-fabrication and industrialization are referred as a solution of sustainable construction due to some of its main characteristics consisting of many sustainability aspects. Du...
متن کاملEnergy Analysis of Services through Green Metrics: Towards Green Certificates
Energy-awareness in services can be obtained through annotations regarding energy consumption. In this paper, annotations are given as Green Performance Indicators (GPIs). A service is annotated in terms of its structure, of the used IT platform, and of development costs, human resources, and environment impact. GPIs relate to service development, deployment, and maintenance. An approach is pro...
